New Beginnings!

He’s soooo much bigger now.

Hello again! Yes it HAS been a long while since I posted anything here. Long story short, the three of us have moved from Chicago back to the DC area. What’s that, you say? Three? Yes, three. Last October Cheryl gave brith to our baby boy. He’s quite something and we’re very happy. Anyway, back to the recap, clearly there’s a lot to catch you up on.

I can’t believe I’ve had this blog for almost 10 years. It’s weird looking back at the early posts and seeing how it developed over time. (Note to self: edit the “About” page.) Amazing how things on the internet have changed during the past decade. It’s more podcasts and social media videos than blogging these days. For the most part the only social I’m really active on is Instagram (@sausagekonig if you want to follow). Regardless, this little blog opened up some new avenues for us and introduced me to some awesome people who influenced me greatly, taught me a lot, and pushed my creativity. Which eventually led to…

Sausage Konig! We turned a passion into a business. Did farmers markets, some catering, and had begun hosting pop-up dinners with plans to do more of them in 2020 but…well you know what happened. Funny, despite all the COVID-19 uncertainty we had our best year ever, what with everyone cooking from home more and looking for different, quality ingredients. This ended up being a good thing because Cheryl lost her job, then found another (all while pregnant mind you) which eventually led us to move back to the DC area.

So, in January we ripped the band-aid off, put our house on the market and moved to Silver Spring MD, right on the DC/MD border (Cheryl’s office is down on the Hill). Though we’re sad to leave some very close friends behind, we’re much closer to our families. As you might imagine it’s been difficult not having them near with a baby. Grandparents are already getting their vaccines and queuing up for visits.

And here we are, there and back again. Since it’s going to take a little time to get the business up and running (baby, move, COVID) I’ll do a little writing. I’ve dusted off the keyboard and given the site a make-over. Definitely have some good recipes, nifty little ingredients, and some travel pics from the past couple years to post about. I can’t believe that New Zealand trip was 3 years ago.

Looking forward to reconnecting with everyone, stay safe and keep an eye open for some upcoming posts!

  3. I’d tried to sign up around the posting of Pork Belly Confit never got a response and gave up by coping your recipes into a file checked every once in awhile. Started to cleanup the files Pictures take up to much space. Did a search and was pleased to find your still going. Congratulations on all, move, birth and happiness.

    1. Hi Arthur, thanks! Give it another try if you like, I’ve had a few people sign up recently so it seems to be working.
