About

UPDATE: After a decade-plus in Chicago we’ve moved back to the DC area (Silver Spring MD) in early 2021, I am no longer in real estate, and even though 2020 was…um weird…it was pretty good for us as we welcomed our son into the world! While in Chicago we started a sausage catering business and were active in a few of the city’s farmers markets. Eventually we’ll be getting something back up and running here but until then I’ll be watching the boy and doing a bit of writing…which is how it all started.

I‘m currently a real estate agent living in Chicago who was born and raised in the beautiful Mid-Hudson Valley of New York.  From there I went to Washington DC where I stayed long enough to meet my wonderful wife (she’s originally from Cleveland).  She went to business school and subsequently landed a job in Chicago so here we are!  Growing up I was lucky to have three wonderful women influence me in the kitchen, my grandmother, my mother, and my step-mother.  All cooked great tasting food and when I started living on my own I decided I could either maintain my svelte figure by eating fast food and pizza or by cooking for myself.  I opted for the latter and from that have developed a passion for learning how to cook well which continues today.

Other than our shared passion for delicious food my wife and I love to travel together, play and watch sports (especially soccer), and read voraciously.  I give her lots of credit for increasing my appreciation of James Bond and introducing me to whisky (that’s whisky without the “e,” you know what I’m talking about).  We both think Chicago is a great city and are having loads of fun discovering everything about it, even the non food stuff like the architecture and nightlife.

  1. The Roaming GastroGnome…fantastic name for a blog and I’ll look forward to what you come up with in your future posts.

Also since you’re living in Chicago you might be interested in another Chicago blog: http://fromthebartolinikitchens.com/. Always great food posts.

  3. Sweet blog. Only whisky I know is the kind you put in Irish Coffee. If you and your wife visit San Francisco stop by The Buena Vista (not for the food but for the Irish Coffee which they pour like water).

    1. Thanks! I’ve heard of that place! One of our friends goes there when she’s in SF on business.

      1. Well now you’ve met another real estate agent who cooks! lol

      2. Sometimes we do find ourselves with free time! This spring has been pretty busy though. Hope it’s been that way for you.

  4. Peter,
I’ve nominated you for a Leibster Award. The award is a “blogger to blogger award” that both allows other bloggers to show their appreciation to one another, and is a way to get to know some one new.

Here’s what you should do if you are interested:

    1. Each person must post 11 things about themselves.
    2. Answer the questions that the tagger set for you plus create 11 questions for the people you’ve tagged to answer.
    3. Choose 11 people and link them in your post.
    4. Go to their page and tell them.
    5. No tag backs!

Here are the 11 questions from me:
    1. When did you start blogging?
    2. What motivated you to start blogging?
    3. How often do you blog?
    4. What suggestions do you have for new bloggers?
    5. How much time do you put in on a blog?
    6. Where do you come up with your ideas?
    7. What other creative venues do you have?
    8. Do you post on a particular time/day of the week?
    9. What do you find most frustrating about blogging?
    10. If you could do any one thing on your blog what would it be?
    11. What was the favorite thing you ever did with your blog?

    Cheers, ritaLOVEStoWRITE
