Out of town this week on a vacation with Cheryl’s family in the Colorado Rockies. We haven’t had much time to ourselves but were able to break away for a few hours the other morning for a nice hike along the ridge above where we’re staying in Snowmass. For all of my outdoors-y friends who rave about Colorado, I get it now.
We only hiked the south half of the Rim Trail, mostly because we were able to convince her dad to drive us up to the halfway point for a somewhat ‘summit start’ instead of having to zig-zag up goat paths. Hey, trying to get any advantage in the thinner air here! Don’t worry we still worked a little bit as there is still some elevation in the south trail which, at the highest point we’d gone up a couple hundred feet from where we started.
It was a gorgeous day for a walk along a mountain ridge and The Rocky Mountains are quite impressive. As you can see, the views are amazing and there are mountains as far as you can see. I can’t imagine going through these mountains to settle the western United States. Took us about 3 hours to go from the midpoint of the 7+ mile long trail to the shopping center in Snowmass village. Hopefully we’ll take on the northern half before flying back to Chicago on Sunday.
And yes, we’re all eating and drinking well.

Sure is beautiful. I love how the lake is tucked in the mountains. Would not want to winter there. Thanks for sharing.
